My friend recently got an XFX R9 280X and put it in his new system. Without drivers, his display actually looks fine, but with drivers of any kind artifacts appear on the screen. In the desktop screen there are tons of small flickering blue lines, and in games there are a bunch of white triangles that litter the game's screen. No drivers have worked so far, for more than a few minutes or until we enter into a game. Is it a messed up card, or is there a solution?

Go into AMD CCC and go to Overdrive.

Set the memory clock down 150mhz and see if that makes a difference. This often happens on r9 280x's as they are clocked too high.
Other than that I would return your card for a new one. RMA.

-good luck

How would clock speed only affect the 280X when it has drivers? It shows no artifacts when no drivers are installed, which tells me it's a software problem.
