XFX R9 290 DD causing restarts. Help!

I recently installed a XFX R9 290 DD. I'm using a MSI 760gm P34 fx mobo with a AMD fx 4300 cpu. Ever since the install I have suffered random restarts under conditions of no use, little use, and heavy use. There seems to be no reason for the restarts. I have plenty of ventilation, and temps never get high, the computer is rarely on long enough anyway.

I first installed it using a corsair cx600m psu, so my initial thought was the psu wasn't strong enough. I replaced it, in the usual overkill fashion I do, with a seasonic x series 1050w 80+ gold rated psu. Still the problem persisted.

I wiped every display driver I could find, cleared out everything related to the original install and to the prior gpu. I then did a fresh install of the gpu and all of its drivers. Still the problem persists. I have updated all the drivers I can find, including those for my mobo.

I am at an absolute loss. Any ideas?

Well, inconsistent crashing can be tough. Are you using a surge protector? can you change that?

How much hardware can you swap out? thats where i would start if you already reformatted and swapped PSU's.

Feel free to PM me or open a ticket at xfxsupport.com for our tech support teams input as well. I am certain we can help you solve this and if not, we can definitely get it checked out under warranty.

Thank you

Same here, 3 days now trying to get this card to run at stock speeds (947/5000) I can only get it to work at 500/900mem clock @ 110 power target using asus gpu tweak, which is crazy, paying $300 for it just to downclock the crap out of it... I have tried re-seating it, clear cmos, ddu and driver reinstall many different ways. Fresh windows 7 64 install on my new samsung 850 evo 500gb. I am using the 8pin splitter into 2 separate 6pins, (tried 2 pairs of 6pin pcie cables) which I have tried in different 6pin slots on the psu. Ultra x3 1000w psu which is pretty old, but have never had an issue with it before. From all the forum reading Ive been doing, others have tried new PSU's, RAM, Mobos etc with no luck.
i5 3570k ivy stock @ 3.4, asrock z77 extreme4 mobo. I've been trying anything new I can find on forums/videos. I have not tried flashing new gpu bios yet, xfx website doesn't have software/tools page yet, coming soon... (will try your link)
I have used msi afterburner (force constant voltage/disable ULPS)
Mobo bios are updated, using new omega drivers. Tried just the display driver, tried installing the DD 1st, other options then installing CCC last.

On another thread I read, someone set bios, PCIe bus settings from auto>110 and chipset overvolt from auto>1.3, but I cannot find these settings at all on my mobo. Even dug out software/quick install handbooks for my mobo, looking for answers.
I upgraded from a xfx radeon 5770, which had never given '1' issue, super old card, but ran like a beast for years.
I did have the same random pc restarts on an older card, sapphire 34-- something, x2 gpu, I had to set both clocks the same everytime or it would restart my pc when gaming.
So far with the r9 290, 'NO' browsing or youtube crashing, I ran 'heaven benchmark' 500/900, while slowing stepping up the core/mem clocks. Never crashed, until I played cs:go or starcraft 2 etc. It seems to be only in games I have the issue.
Using gpu tweak, they say to underclock the 2d clocks, but I don't see any option for that, I believe I can create a profile in CCC and get a custom script to run tweaked 2d clocks, but haven't tried yet.

I don't want to waste anymore time on my 3 days off, it's either find a solution or rma, then get an nvida card, which I have never owned, but maybe time to move on.... Thanks any help would be great!!! :)

I'm confused on the techpowerup vgabios list for the XFX radeon r9 290 DD, I currently have vbios 015.046.000.000. The DD on the site are 015.039.000.007.003523. Isn't that an older version? 015.041.000.001.003747 is the highest on there, unless they go down with the numbers?...

Hi Dovah-Chan this is Kevin from xfx :)
To the other two, have you guys tried that new 15.3 beta driver AMD just came out with the other day or are you both still using the 14.12 omega? Definitely make a support ticket at xfxsupport and we will do our best to solve the situation even if it eventually leads to an RMA. Have a great week.

Well so far, instead of using the 8pin to 2 6pin splitter, I used just an 8pin to 6pin for power, along with the 6pin to 2 molex. Also moved gpu down to the 2nd pcie-3 slot. I can actually play games with default CCC running! But after 10mins in CS:GO I had a hard pc restart... So still stuck. Lowered the CCC clocks just a bit and we shall see.

What's your ticket number? The fact that there was actually a change which occurred by switching the slot and switching psu cables is quite telling. Are you able to test the card in the same game in a different system? Preferably in a motherboard with a different chipset just as a test?

I could test it in my friends computer, but that would be a hassle, he's always busy, I think his mobo is older than mine.
After more testing last night, games kept crashing, I even followed a guide where you use GPU Tweak to OC the 2d clocks a bit, this had worked for some people. I am using an old Ultra x3 1000w ULT-HE1000X, LOL it's much much older than I had thought! I looked up a review on it and there was Logan from TigerDirect! (now from Tek Syndicate) dates back to 2007!!!

Looked up some info. on it and found a post,
"The problem IS the power supply. My customer was using an Ultra X3 1000W Supply, model ULT-HE1000X.
I confirmed this myself, and then called Ultra support (which was ideal- Very quick answer, and the engineer was helpful).
The Ultra engineer confirmed that this is a problem with these power supplies, with the PCIe lines, and is a voltage issue. They are trying to come up with a solution, but so far have not; and are considering a workaround, some sort of adaptor to draw PCIe power from another part of the power supply's circuitry.
So anybody out there, Ultra power supply, random reboots... Dont replace everything else like I did, and dont rip your hair out in frustration like I did!

I had this same issue with an older x2 gpu that was sucking up alot of power, never had an issue with the radeon 5770, it's smaller and less power hungry?
Did some research on PSUs, if your build is equal to 500w, you should get a 600w, you don't want something that will starve it, but you don't want overkill either. Say my build is 500w and I have a 1200w psu, that can cause reboots.
I am going to use PSU Calc http://www.coolermaster.outervision.com/ and choose an above average psu. No doubt that I need a newer PSU.
Since newegg will not rma the card, I would have to go through XFX, it sounds like a long process I don't want to deal with.
