I have seen this issue with several other posts but none of the solutions work for me.

Apologies for long post but i have tried to explain my situtation and to make clear
that i have tried many solutions already given for similar/same problem

Here are my specs
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 Water Cooler
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Motherboard: Asus P8Z68-V
Memory: 24.0GB Corsair DDR3 1600mhz Vengeance
Hard Drives: NEW! WD Caviar Black 1TB S-ATAIII
Optical Drive: 4x Blu-Ray ROM S-ATA
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1,536MB --- Bought new GTX 970 afer facing blackout issue
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Monitors: BenQ XL2410-B 23.6" LED 3D
Case: CM Storm Enforcer
PSU: 850W Corsair TX

Please Note: Computer boots fine, no monitor blackouts etc if no graphics card is put in, normal or safe mode.

I was playing a game when my monitor blacked out for couple of secs and froze then came back followed by computer shut down with
blue screen error. One of the PCIE slots (GTX 580 was initially mounted) doesn't seems to work anymore with old 580 or 970, cards
are not recognised even in safe mode.

I can only see these cards in safe mode when they are planted on second PCIE slot.

When i boot with my old gpu 580 in normal windows mode monitor goes off and says no signal, 1 in 5 attempts actually loads
windows but i can see 580 disabled in device manager by windows with 043 error and windows switches to on-board graphics adapter.

With my new Gtx 970 windows never loads in normal mode, i can only see it in safe mode and i can go to higher resolution too.

Windows normal mode monitor with graphics card 580/970 goes no signal after windows logo and turns off, i can hear windows load with fans running for
CPU, case, graphics card etc.

Already tried following to no avail

Bought new card GTX 970, same issue
Installed at least 5 previous version of drivers for both these cards. Removed on-board drivers to force windows to use external gpu.
Used DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to remove all the bits of drivers.
Ran malware removing softwares, CC Cleaner etc
Lowered resolution while in safe mode for normal windows.
Tried different monitors/projector, different cables HDMI, DVI & VGA.
Cleaned boot with msconfig just loading windows services.
Restored windows at few times to previous points, last known good configuration and repair windows.
Booted from second hard disk same OS version still get same black monitor after windows logo (rules out windows corruption?)
CMOS reset with jumper/battery
Uninstalled all related software i can think of SoftXpand, MSI Afterburner etc

Thanks for your time

Solution
Test your Ram, try 1 stick at a time, try doing a fresh install for windows. You could always install Linux and see if it boots well.

If i was a betting man i would say your motherboard was at fault but its very hard to tell.

Well I am not an expert...But if you checked monitor and graphics card, the most probable is a problem of your motherboards slot for the graphic card.
Have you tried another slot for the graphic card or connect the monitor directly to the mobo?

Thanks for your response...my bad i should have included that computer boots fine without external graphics card so no monitor blackouts etc if i take cards out and just use on-board graphics. Edited the post for same

Happy you solved the problem!
I thought you have already formatted the PC. In those cases first think to do is save important files if you can and format. When i have smilar problems is one of the first thinks i do.
