Random ping spikes

Hello,

I am currently (sadly) with Sky Broadband and I get ping spikes. I can playing DotA 2 fine with 30 ping and then suddenly I get 300 ping for 5 minutes. It's unplayable and during this time web pages take 10 seconds to load.

Are there any tweaks that I can do in the router setting or any other advice?

The router is sagem F@ST2504n and I am connection wirelessly via BT WiFi Dongle.

Your router could be under heavy load from other connections Laptops/mobiles could be causing it especially if they are downloading
a few things that can work
Make sure Steam isn't downloading/updating any games whilst you play
disconnect laptops from the Wi-Fi if unused same goes for mobile phones
Use Ethernet Cable as wireless is unreliable
make sure other applications such as Origin or UPlay are closed
