Because Black Flag is old now the version of PunkBuster won't be the same as to what it is now so it causes crashes and other problems, so yeah update PunkBuster and you should be good to go :)

Would that actually work? How do you know?

A few years back I used to play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which ran on PunkBuster and after a while of inactivity I decided to play again, to then come to the conclusion that it would keep crashing and booting me back to the desktop everytime I connected to a game. Turns out all I had to do was update PunkBuster and there you have it, all working fine again, so I'm about 99.9% sure that this is your fix

I have found that even when not in a game or when transferring a large amount of data PB would crash my system

OK I just went to start downloading an Assassin's Creed game and my whole system has frozen. PB is not on so I really don't know what is wrong with this

BTW, I have a very old version of PB on my laptop that I am using right now and the latest version is 3.7 and I got 0.9 and never, ever had a freezing problem with this machine. The PC, had it since day one

Could be a RAM issue then

I am pretty sure it's a software problem, also i have tested the RAM. It's been recommended I look into buying Windows 8
