PS3 not displaying on the tv with the hdmi plugged in. It recognizes that it's plugged in but will not display an image.

My tv recognizes my PS3 is plugged in through the hdmi but it will not display on the tv.

While the system is off, press and hold the power button. It will beep once, and while you continue to hold it, it will beep a second time. Release it when it beeps the second time.
This should detect the correct resolution and change it.
