I bought my computer ~3 years ago, and I haven’t replaced any of the parts since then (except I added an SSD). Now I am noticing lackluster performance in most recent AAA games, and I am not meeting the recommended specs in pretty much all big upcoming games, and even missing the min. specs in a few. I want to be able to run the latest AAA games, so I am looking to upgrade my processor and my graphics card, but I can’t afford to buy both at the same time, so I was wondering which one to get and install first.

For the processor I plan on buying this: Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K

For the graphics card, I plan on buying an Nvidia GTX 970.
I know there are different brands of manufacturers for each model of GPU, but I don’t really know how to choose between them. I think I would get the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 G1 Gaming GDDR5 Pcie Video Graphics Card, 4GB, but I just glanced at it, and I don’t really know what the differences between the other versions are. Which version/model of the GTX 970 would you recommend?

So which would have a bigger impact gaming performance wise, and would either of them be bottlenecked/ incompatible with what is in my computer right now? Are these two parts sound choices to upgrade to, and will they stay current for upcoming AAA pc games for a decent amount of time?

Here are my PC Specs:

Graphics Card: Single 1GB GDDR5 AMD RADEON HD 7770 1GHz Edition

get the gtx 970 1st it will provide you more performance boost than changing the processor

after that change your processor and motherboard to core i5-4690 and a z97 mobo

but for the time being get the GPU and just overclock your processor to at least a 4ghz to reduce bottlenecking.

So will I still get a decent performance boost with only the GPU upgraded? Also, with graphics cards, is compatibility with the motherboard an issue? Or is that only an issue for the processor upgrade? And will I need a bigger power supply for the GTX 970?

yep the fx-6100+gtx 970 combo will be miles ahead compared to a i5-4690k+hd 7770 ghz

like i said ocing the 6100 will help reduce bottleneck.

and yes the corsair cx 500 watts will be more than enough for the gtx 970(but it would have been better if you got the Corsair HX/AX series)
