I have just built a new pc. Everything was going fine until the installation of Windows 7. I selected my drive and it started to install but unfortunately the power went out during install. I think it might have damaged the drive. I have tried formatting, chkdsk, creating partitions in diskpart but nothing seemed to work. Is there any way to repair this?
Thanks,
Mason

Unfortunately, this may be the case. :(
One last thing you can do is to attach the HDD as a secondary one to another system and see whether it can get partitioned and formatted.

Hi there masonman1118,

You will need to go to Disk Management and see whether and how is the drive recognized over there.
If it is not, you will need to change the SATA port as well as the cables(SATA and power one).
If it is over there but it is not initialized, you will need to initialize it first before partitioning and formatting it.

Hope this will help,

Where exactly is disk management? All I know is that it recognizes it as unallocated space. After that, how would I initialize the drive? I have tried all SATA ports and all power cords too.

Have you tried reinstalling Windows? Do you get any error messages? What did the chkdsk say?
Disregard what I mentioned about initializing the drive.
If nothing works just attach the drive to another computer as a secondary one and see whether it will get recognized correctly.

Cheers,

When I try get into windows installation and I get to where you select a drive it says that I need to "ensure the disks controller is enabled in the bios" When I do chkdsk I get an I/O error and when I do chkdsk /f it says it is wrote protected because the file system is NTFS.

So I tried both of these and the chkdsk still gave me an I/O error. My SATA was already on ahci. By now I think it's just time to buy a new drive...
