Hello, and thanks for reading this, especially if you are one of the experts! I'll dig

right in here.
I have an HP windows 7 laptop that is in trouble and I'm trying to save her, if I can.
The problem is this:
I am locked out of my administrators account due to the"cannot find user profile" message

from Microsoft. As far as I know, I've done nothing to "earn" this message. It was just

there one day and I have not been able to get logged in as admin.
I know, use safe mode, right? Well, here's the problem. I have a cracked laptop screen

and I can't see where to log in or read anything when I do boot up into safe mode.
I am asking, among other things, how to log in in safe mode when I can't read the screen.
I have been using the limited account which does not have admin rights to use the laptop.

However, as I knew would occur, I now need to update some software but can't without the

admin rights and/or the ability to go into safe mode in order to fix this "user profile

settings" business which Microsoft decided to give me.
I believe ordinarily this would not be a big deal if I could just get into safe mode.
In case you didn't know, I have been using a monitor for the cracked screen.

Is there some way to get this monitor to work while going into safe mode?
In short, if I could get into safe mode I could probably fix this "user profile setting"

issue I think. Or is there some other way to fix this particular problem?
I certainly would be happy if I could save this laptop.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could put a new laptop screen in but they are costly

and difficult to track down without going to a Micro center and getting ripped off there.

Just wanting to know if I can do anything about this or am I bested by a cracked screen

and Microsoft's little plan to force people into windows 8 (which I have on another

PC-regrettably).

Many, many thanks for your time and consideration!

Not sure if I put this in the correct place or not-didn't see anywhere else to put it.

I appreciate your help, but sadly, neither of those ideas worked out. It seems no matter what I do, I end up getting that admin box telling me that I have to have admin rights to do anything like what you suggested. As for the idea of turning on and pressing F8 to boot that way, without the ability to see the screen I can't log in. It also does not transfer over to the other monitor. At least with what I am doing (what you said). I have tried it and waited several minutes for it to recognize, if you will, the other monitor-but it never does.

If you have any other ideas, I would love to hear them, but it seems that I just can't get past that admin box. It stops me from doing just about anything. This is my wife's pc by the way. She has no memory to remember the admin password or this whole thing would be nothing really.
If only she could remember the admin password.

Thanks again

- go into Windows normally;
- press the Windows button and type in "msconfig" and enter it;
- go to the "Boot" tab;
- under "Boot options" select "Safe boot", select "Minimal";
- restart and keep pressing F8;
- when advanced boot options pops up press "Enter"; (safe mode is probably selected by default)

How to figure out that you're in the Advanced boot options? Given your situation you can't really do that. Alternative: alternate pressing F8 with pressing Enter; this way if you manage to enter Advanced boot you'll also select safe mode within the time limit.

Other simpler solutions? Reinstall Windows after you fix the cracked screen.
