We have a large RAID system (24 disk main, 16 disk JBOD) that is no longer supported by MFR. Main box PSU unit is toast, would take 2 months to have factory in Taiwan build one off. Do I:
-buy generic +1500watt PSU unit and solder on proprietary backplane connectors?
-Power the motherboard with a typical PSU, buy a 24 bay JBOD and run main raid externally. (if so, additional question here)
-Find 24 bay chassis from a different supplier, migrate MOBO and drives to new chassis.

I have run the gaunlet with the PSU MFR. It was a proprietary build for this particular storage system based on a different 3rd party storage company that no longer supports the product. Essentially, I am in no mans land dues to 5 year old equipment that is no longer supported.

I ran the PSU Unit and module part numbers through every used/gray market salvage distributor... no dice.

At the moment, all signs are pointing to:
1.taking the MOBO and RAID disks out of this chassis and find a new chassis to house and power them.
2. Putting a standard PSU in this chassis to power the MOBO and move the 24 RAID disks to an external JBOD via long SAS cables to the ARECA card.
3. Purchasing an off the shelf HI-PO PSU and redoing the pinouts on the proprietary connectors.

1. will be the most costly, 2. will be slightly less and could re-use JBOD boxes down the road. 3. will be the cheapest and riskiest, as well as time consuming.

Thanks for your feedback.
