Hey everyone. I'm building a new rig for myself, primarily for gaming. This is what I've come up with, so just checking to see if everything's good really. Don't mind going a bit over budget if it's worth it, looking for a good price/performance ratio :)

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/4RrrnQ

CPU - Intel Core i5-4690K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor @ £183
Cooler - Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler @ £26
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI ATX LGA1150 Motherboard @ £90
RAM - G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory @ £60
Storage - Crucial MX100 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive @ £78
Storage - Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive @ £35
GPU - Asus GeForce GTX 970 4GB STRIX Video Card @ £293
Case - Fractal Design Define R4 (Black Pearl) ATX Mid Tower Case @ £66
PSU - EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply @ £88
Monitor - Asus PB278Q 27.0" Monitor @ £464

Plus some extra fans, bringing the total to about £1400.

Is this enough to game comfortable in 1440p? I'm torn between this monitor and the new ROG Swift, would this make a difference to my build?

I would also like the potential to upgrade to SLI maybe, some time in the future. Like getting another GTX 970 or something.

Any other advice is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

This is dollars but 1 pound is like 1.5/1.7 dollars isn't it. Only a monitor and you can swap out cooling if you,d like to

Definitely jealous of those US prices. I'm not sure how good an idea it is ordering overseas though, I'll have to check that out. Thanks!

Hi kushy, sorry for late response

It's amazing how similar our builds are.

This is my proposed final build:

Basically, I am also looking for a monitor to push me up to like £1300 and I think your monitor is a good choice, it seems to be praised on many forums.

Also, I need to warn you of the backlash Nvidia is getting at the moment for the GTX970 memory issues. I bought mine and is still sitting in the box. I have my R4 case and RAM.

@Arno I personally think i7 is overkill for gaming. Even for 1440p gaming. A an i5 4690 should suffice, plus it saves you some money.

I think you have a solid build.

I personally need to be paid my salary each month to buy stuff, so hopefully in a few months, prices in the uk should have come down on monitors, you too should keep an eye out :D

Admirable
If you can wait to get another 970 in the future to use this monitor up to it's full potential, this you should go with this build. Also I would go with 16GB of RAM, it is slowly and pretty close to become the standard amount you would need. The VRAM issue is nothing to worry about as long as you don't go over that 3.5 of VRAM, the 0.5 of VRAM is there, you'll just run slower if you go over. But at 1080p and 1440p it is most unlikely you won't reach up to that much with most games, for some but not all.
