Hello all, I hope you will be able to help me.

Intel Core I5 3570K 3.4Ghz Quad Core Ivybridge CPU Processor overclocked to 4.4Ghz
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H Intel Z77 DDR3 ATX HDMI Motherboard
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 High Performance CPU Cooler
HyperX Predator Series 8 GB 1866 MHz DDR3
Corsair TX650V2 Enthusiast Series 650W TX ATX/EPS 80 PLUS Bronze PSU

Until recently I had a 7850 gpu, until one morning it failed to boot. I plugged the display input into the motherboard and it worked, but Dxdiag would not pick up that a gpu was installed.

I tried all I could think of, plugging different cables into the gpu and the motherboard, but with no luck. It was suggested to me that perhaps the card had died. I thought this a good enough reason to upgrade, to a Sapphire Dual-X AMD Radeon R9 280X OC 3GB GDDR5 Graphics Card.

I have tried several options in an attempt to get the PC to output display through the new gpu. Having made sufficient adjustments to the internals of the PC (had to move the HDD up a spot or two) the card will easily fit and seat properly, but I find myself doubting if I am using the correct power cables. The card requires an 8 and a 6 pin power supply. Should I be using the PCI cables from the PSU or should I use the supplied molex to pci adapter cables that came with the card?

I am beginning to worry if something is wrong with the motherboard, but the PC is currently running fine using the direct display output from the motherboard via VGA with the card not installed. With the card installed the computer does not boot properly. For some reason, the CPU overclock has dropped to 3.8. I suspect this may have been due to an option presented to me involving booting with optimised options.

I would greatly appreciated any and all responses. I am at my wits end!

I have tried both PCI slots but haven't had any luck. I also attempted to use both the PCI cables that are part of the PSU as well as the molex to PCI adapters that were supplied with the GPU. Unfortunately neither made a difference, but thank you for your reply.
