I was looking to build a modern computer for high detail gaming and small scale video editing at an affordable price, I have never built my own PC before and was wondering if these parts would be suitable or if anyone could recommend better.

Case: NZXT phantom 530
Motherboard: MSI x99s SLI plus
CPU: Intel core I7-5820k
CPU Cooler: Cooler master hyper 212 evo
GPU: KFA2 GeForce GTX 980 SOC
RAM: Crucial 8gb (1x8gb) ddr4 2133mhz memory
PSU: Zalman 650w 80+ gold semi-modular PSU
Storage: wd1002fbys 1tb (taking this out of my old PC)

I plan on adding another 8 GB stick of ram, a new harddrive and possibly another GPU when the prices fall in the future.
If anyone can see any problems with these parts or recommend better please help. Thanks.

the SPU is fine for now but if you plan to go with a dual GPU, just as the other guys had said you will need to buy a new one, is better to buy what you need now, at very last a 800W

those CPU are quad channel memory, so you can try 4GBx2 and buy the other 2 for the quad channel combo, 16GB is just more than enough for most tasks, but even 8GB are ok most of the time...

now if you will use that HDD you will see a big damn bottleneck, i think a SSD is really necesary for that kind of stuff, a samsung 850 EVO or Pro are good options, the intel SSDs are great too, i think up to 240/256GB is good enough for the system and main programs, and its a big deal for fast feeling performance, i dont know what kind of computer you have actually...

those are currently some of the best hardware on the market and nothing need to change except the hdd .. seeing as though its coming from the old pc it would be wise to get a newone since it might be close to the end of its life cycle depending on how long you have it for ,, imo i would even opt to get a ssd instead as the speed of the drive would do you alot of good especially in gaming ...

BTW if you plan to get another gpu and do sli then a PSU change is essential as a 650 cant handle two gtx 980 i suggest atleat 1000 watt single rail psu ..

Thanks for the quick answers, I will probably get a better PSU and 2 x 4gb of 2400mhz crucial ballistix sport ram is on sale so I will get that as well. I will have to deal with the HDD bottleneck for a few months until I can get an ssd with reasonable storage.

well i have a 1TB barracuda HDD with 64MB cache, and a 520 intel SSD, thanks to AHCI SATA mode, and intel rapid storage i can share information between the two drives at pick speeds of 300mb/S!!!!!! and an avarage speed (while mooving a lot of data) of 150MB/s, so a "hybrid" storgae is a very nice option as well
