I am a first time builder and I have always used Windows 7/Vista/Xp.But I have heard of Linux and also heard its free.Is it anything like windows. And would it work with Prion Architect,War Thunder,World of Tanks,Steam,Orgion/Simcity,Blockland,Unturned Etc.(My build I am going to make http://pcpartpicker.com/p/yncqQ7)

Solution
Linux is not Windows, and applications designed for Windows will not work natively under Linux. There is a Linux project, Wine which make possible to run some Windows applications under Linux. There is also Steam for Linux, but (for what I know) not all games are ported.

If you are serious gamer with demanding games, Wine/Linux is not for you.
not as point and click and may need some more skill to use it but its come along way and much easier to use and as you said free -- you should get a drive [nothing fancy or expensive/old unused working ] and put a copy on it and use it -- you may learn/enjoy from it I like Linux mint but like you said its free and if you don't like one try another ...

but for me I keeo a drive with windows on it and a drive with Linux and just boot to what one I want to use

I guess I should add if your using os for games and gaming best stick with windows -- some may or may require a program like wine to emulate windows and some games are ok with that some are not ??
this is why I keep a drive with windows and a drive with Linux ??? steam has some kind of Linux client thing but never used it ??

Steam is available on Linux. The list of games available for Linux is not the same as for Windows.
Have a look here to see if your game is supported (currently 1749 games for linux on steam):
http://store.steampowered.com/browse/linux/
http://store.steampowered.com/search/?os=linux

As it turns out most of the games you list, besides the Freemium/Free2play games, Have native linux versions. If you already have these games through steam, all you need to do is install the steam linux client and your games will be installable.

If all you plan to do is play games, then there is absolutely no reason why you should run a GNU/Linux distribution. If you are also interested in learning things about them, then go ahead, but Windows is still the best platform for gaming on computers.
If a game(or any application for that matter) does not have a build for your distro, or at least provides a way to compile the source(no commercial game will have its source released), then you will have to run them through emulation software such as Wine.
However, the thing about Wine is that almost 1/3 of all games that are tracked on WineHQ do not work at all. Of those that do, most of them have some issues such as missing features or instability.

In terms of which distro you should use, I would point to Ubuntu or Mint. They have a good community, and are beginner friendly.

Also if you are a college student, your university may be in Dreamspark, which should give you access to a lot of products free of charge, including Windows.

Agreeing with the previous posters here. If you're taking CS, then Linux may be a good idea, but otherwise if all you do is game on that PC then you should probably stick with Windows.

The reason I dual boot Linux (openSUSE 13.2 KDE) and Windows 10 on my laptop which I use for school is because Windows runs like a pig and BSODs occasionally on my system (Toshiba Satellite E55t-A5320, Core i5 Haswell, 12 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, HD 4400).

Aside: Where's the GPU on that build?
