System:Windows 8.1
Mobo-H97 MSI Gaming 3
GPU-R9 290 Asus DCUII OC
CPU-I7 4790k

i have been experiencing black screen after i install the AMD catalyst drivers then try log in to windows (i can see the Bios flash screen)
i have tried everything from DDU/Driver Sweeper and installing the ACD in steps to a fresh installation of windows and disabling intel HD graphics in the Device Manager
i believe this is to do with CCC (catalyst control center),is the CCC a necessary piece of software to game or can i rely on other software such as GPU tweak by asus or the MSI afterburner.Instead of CCC ?

i already tried using older versions of the driver (14.4/2)
i was able to get into a game and use the GPU properly but after making a change in CCC i got black screen again and i refresh installed windows, installed MB drivers and GPU drivers, and got black screen

If you have a secondary HDMI monitor attached to the system, but not powered on, like a tv or a second monitor, it may be that the display is defaulting to that screen even though it's not turned on. If you do, disconnect any secondary monitors attached via HDMI and retry.

If not, see if the problem happens when you boot to safe mode. If it doesn't still happen, follow the directions at the following link in the drivers section to do a clean driver install.

The CCC is a required component, so far as I can tell, for the last few driver versions, as I haven't seen any of the drivers available separately like they used to be. You CAN however choose the custom option when installing the drivers and NOT install any of the optional components like CCC, Gaming evolved, etc.

I also don't see your PSU listed. What is the brand and model number of your power supply?

No secondary display is connected, and the issue does not persist in safe mode
i use the Cx600w by corsair (not so good i know ahah),
thank you for the reply, ill try installing the drivers without CCC and see how it goes!

The R9 290 requires a very good 550w or relatively good 650w unit for operation. The CX series is not recommended for gaming cards or overclocking, (Are you overclocking at all?), and really only has 522w continuous capacity per the label on the unit itself. I doubt that would be enough to cause a boot issue, although it might create problems in actual gaming depending on the load and settings.

Sounds more like a problem with the GPU to me. It wouldn't be surprising either. I've seen three ASUS R9 290 cards myself, just in the last couple of days here, that had to be RMA'd due to issues with the cards. When it comes to AMD based graphics cards, I like Sapphire and XFX much better than ASUS or Gigabyte, although they both make good cards on the green (Nvidia) side and for the most part their products are high quality, especially when it comes to motherboards.

If the issue doesn't happen when using the integrated graphics it's likely to be the card.

Try all of the following:

But i really doubt this is a hardware issue,as in one instance i was able to game and run the card flawlessly,i was playing Metro in highest settings for some time and i saw no black screen or crash, then i had changed a setting in CCC and saw blackscreen again (memory)
then when i swiped the drivers and tried installing them i got blackscreen, the card does show image,it just goes black after i open up chrome or something on the desktop

i know the PSU would cause some issues, ill try change it abit later as i shelled out on a new motherboard and CPU

Thank you very much for the quick replies!
EDIT:i installed the Drivers, display driver first, reboot then the rest apart of evolved and CCC
it works pretty okay i was playing Forest for a while and no black screen, watched a movie, then when i went on chrome i got black screen
EDIT2:alien isolation,Metro, its running completely okay but the moment i get into chrome and browse i get a black screen
