I want to make the switch to Intel, but my friends keep telling me I should grab an i5 over an i7 CPU for recording/gaming

My PC specs are:
- R9 280X DUAL-X GPU
- AMD FX 8350 4.0ghz CPU
-16GB (4x4GB) HyperX Kingstom RAM
-990FX R2.0 Sabertooth MOBO
-750W Corsair PSU

With a budget of $550 what MOBO/CPU should I get to run games on high/ultra while recording/rendering such as:
-ARMA 3
-GTA V
-BF:Hardline
-H1Z1
-CS:GO

Please and thanks for any input on this!

All games you mentions will run better on Intel cuz of better single core performance (ARMA 3, CS, H1Z1),R9 280x is still good card for 1080p gaming, also WoW runs much better on intel and Nvidia combo.
SO how about this go with i7 and z97 mobo now, save up some money later sell r9 280x and get new r9 3xx series that will come in few months.
I7 will give you much better performance if you plan to play and record/stream in same time.As for GTA V it depends how good will they port it from consoles.

Your CPU Is enough for now,i wouldn't recommend anyone having a fx 8350 and a decent 990fx to switch to intel, you should rather be looking at upgrading your gpu.

FX 8350 has 8 cores you should be fine with it and you should spend those $550 on your graphics card. I think something is wrong with your friend who is recommending i5 over i7 R9 280x is not very good for heavy rendering. You should sell your 280x and buy a R9 295x2 .

I forgot to mention, the AMD 8350 is over two years old now. I don't have any issues with it at the moment besides low FPS in some games..

World of Warcraft (45-50FPS)tends to give me low frames, and so does CS:GO(100FPS), BF:4(35-45FPS) and Arma 3(20-30FPS)..

Alright, well im officially unsure of what to do now lol..
Some of you are saying GPU and some are saying CPU.

The 280x is Fairly new, maybe 4 months old. The CPU may possibly die out, as it's at 2 years old. (close to 3)

It really comes down to what you want, however as some people mentioned you still have decent specs and a upgrade won't make a huge difference. However if you wish to go for a semi-new build with Intel then the i5 4690k with a Z97 is the way to go. You could always sell your AMD parts as well and put aside money for a newer GPU or even a i7.

Your CPU close to a modern I5 in gaming with few exceptions, I5 has about 99% of the I7 gaming performance. It will multitask better than an I5 but is no competition to I7 in that.
You can overclock your CPU for some performance increase if you have sufficient cooling but really a stronger GPU would give you more since the FX8350 can keep up with them.

Well, I'm mainly looking to have a PC that'll power through GTA V on max settings and have little to no lag..
I figure an Intel CPU would help me with that issue.
