I have an 10 year old ide desktop that has ide & sata motherboard connections. I have added 2 sata HDDs with no issues alongside the old ide HDD which has starting to click..
The ide connected DVD RW stopped working so purchased a new sata DVD RW which came with its own cable. Fitted while power off.
Restarted computer and it just hangs at grey boot screen but can only access bios and not boot options... Even just leaving it does not work??
Is recognised and is visible and works when plugged in while power on and already booted, after scanning for hardware changes and drivers auto installed..
Any suggestions rather than re-install windows?
OS is Windows 7
Packard Bell Imedia system

Tried and failed I am afraid...
Awaiting ide/sata converter to see if using original ide cable works instead of the ide cable.
Thought may be a bios issue but not knowledgeable enough to sort it out.

Purchased an ide/sata adapter and plugged into the ide slot and now works fine with ide lead and power..... Just one of those things. At least sorted now with no more fuss.
