my build at the moment is:
Intel Core i5 4590
h81m-plus
DDR3 8g
ATI Radeon HD 4870 (well aware its old ha)

im looking to upgrade my graphics cards to hopefully some type of geforce (970) but im not sure what kind of graphics cards will fit my mother board.
the dimensions of my case are pretty large and im not too concerned with that. mostly just compatibility. any tips on which graphics cards will work and which wont?

Solution

yup thats a tier 2 class B psu that should be able to handle any given graphics card on the planet at this moment ...
great choice ..

as long as the motherboard as a pci express slot the graphics card or any graphics card to that matter will work ... just make sure you have the power supply to handle it and the case has good airflow and you should be ok ..

ok a bit of bad news .. you have a untiered psu that is probably bad and will in time destroy your system and most definitely wont handle a gtx 970 ,, when buying a power supply refer to this list (http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html) by tomshardware and get a power supply from tier 3 to tier 1 anythiong lower than 3 or that is not there is most of the time bad for your system and make explode under too much load and i know you dont wanna buy a gtx 970 and then after a few hours is gets burn out thanks to your psu .. i suggest you get a certified 500 or 550 80plus bronze certified psu for a gtx 970 .. or any card to that matter
