I've recently added a WD Red NAS drive to my media server.

I initially was using ubuntu desktop and the drive was fine,

I switched to windows and I'm using plex as it's just a better option at the moment.

I can't partition or format the hard drive. I've tried to use easeUS partition manager and it freezes, I used the WD utility to write zero's and it says "failed to write" Also, windows says "unable to format"

Any ideas why this is happeneing? The HDD is only a month old.

Thanks

I must admit, I didn't expect that to be the case with the tests. Did you check the test results or you've just seen the SMART status? Either way if it doesn't work with your other computer as well, I'd recommend that you get in touch with our 24/7 customer support line specifically created for WD Red drives for further assistance: 24/7 Support for WD Red Products

Good luck.
Hey ebmurray21. I'm sorry to hear you're having such issues with your drive. I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different computer to see if the same thing happens. As you've already downloaded DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic) I'd also suggest that you run both tests (Quick and Extended) to see if anything alarming pops-up. If the results are negative and the drive appears to be failing, or has any issues, or you can't get it to work, I'd advise you to contact our customer support and ask about RMA: Warranty & RMA Services

Hope that helps. Let me know how things go.
