Dude,
I was reading an ebook on my laptop and suddenly the system hanged up, I was forced to shut it down by holding the power button for 3 seconds. When restarted, the system it would not go past the Windows Loading screen (the one with the windows Logo). I tried to load the repair option but it leads into repair with no dialog box showing up. so i tried to load the repair option with two, Win 7 and Win8, installation DVD's but the result was same. So i decided to get a fresh copy of windows but the setup would not go past the Setup is Starting message, with the mouse pointer appearing to be busy. I tried WinXP installation disk. The setup hangs up and a blue screen appears after the drivers/files are loaded up. (where it says setup is starting Windows) the blue screen points out error related to HDD, when i checked up on online forums. So i ran a HDD test at the bootup. the SMART check passes but the Long test fails. The Safemode option stucks up at the CLASSPNP.SYS, And the online guides to fixing this problem require a command prompt window which can only be loaded after the repair window shows up dialog boxes.
So how to fix this problem, short of buying a new HDD?

Solution
STOP STOP STOP.... OMG your mixing OS version over each other.
Just make a DBAN CD, boot from DBAN, wipe drive.
IF during the 'wipe' you see it takes many many (like 4+) hours to format OR it ERRORS on the wipe then your HDD IS FAILING and YES you need a new HDD.
Otherwise, once done, just insert your LEGAL COPY OF WINDOW 8, and let it install.

I took out the HDD and used DBAN to format it in another laptop.
Now the problem is that when i put the HDD back in its own system, that laptop would not powerup the screen. not even with another HDD.
