Strange click sound from my HDD then my comp freezes

My computer has been making this strange click sound when im gaming or online after a few mins up to an hour. I read that this was caused by my HDD so i got a replacement and installed it but i still get the same problem i cant figure out what could be causing this.

The sound comes from my HDD
No BSOD

An audible click might be a protection device in the PSU. Does the sound come from the system case or the speakers? Can you open the case side and see if you can locate where it comes from? Do you have a CD/DVD drive? Could be coming from it. You can test that but disconnecting the power from it. If the system freezes after the click then it sounds like (lol) a PSU issue.

it comes from the HDD itself not form the speakers yeah i have a cdrive and i was thinking it might be a psu issue as well

Normally a HDD does not make an audible click sound, what HDD are you using?

That sounds like ye olde Click of Death. Basically that's the arm striking the inner spindle or outer case as it tries to seek a sector. This usually means your HDD is due a swift and catastrophic death. The fact that it accompanies a crash strengthens this.

Advice, back up the data you can and replace the drive. Clicking hard drives usually mean a very, very bad thing.

HDD can fail in a week as easily as they can last for over a decade

but if i have replaced it with a new one twice there isn't something else causing it? just bad luck?

use seagate seatools and test the hdd with it .

doing a long test now but it seems like it is a bad drive... i just bought it
i will need to buy a disk to do the DOS Test

you dont need to do the dos one he windows is good and if it fail the test ram it also if you want a better hdd go with wd black .and keep the one they will send you back for data only .

if the hdd overheath that could made it to fail what king of air flow you have in the case .

I have one behind my computer one under my PSU one in front of my HDD one on my motherboard and one built into my graphics card

give your case name and model the same for the case fan if you could also use this to check what temp it read on the hdd http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php report result .
