I'm currently using 2*2Gb of ram that was in a hp pavilion HP Pavilion p6330f.
I was planning on upgrading but then the 4Gb would just be unused.
So why not save a few bucks and buy a 8Gb kit and use the 4Gb kit for an effective memory of 12Gb which is plenty.

The different kits would be on different channels so it should work, right?
And can i run the new kit at 1866 and then the older at it's max 1333?

It may or may not work, any time you mix DRAM sets it can be and often is problematic - even with the same exact model. and being in different channels doesn't mean a thing - ideally if the two sets worked together you would have 1 stick of each set in each channel so you would have 6 GB in each and all run under dual channel. And no you can't have some DRAM run at one data rate and other run at a different rate - All DRAM in a rig runs at the same data rate, timings and voltages
