hi i recently have been looking for a resolution to my question "how much vram do i need" yes i know that there is other posts explaining this but i cannot find the resolution i am using,
i know that for 1080p 2 gb of v ram is enough but what about the other resolutions e.g. 4k, 5760x1080 etc i and anyone else who finds the need to ask this question will be thankful for for some explanation (i personally use 3 1080p monitors which come down to 5760 x 1080) i asked another question about graphics cards on "tom's HARDWARE" fortunately it was answered and i ended up with the conclusion of purchasing a gtx 980 and as much as i believe that it will run all my games at max settings i was thinking of getting 2 of the 6GB gtx 780's form strix purely because of the v ram because i read somewhere that the demand of vram in gaming is rising and this setup is supposed to last me a very long time **3 -4 years** so shall i stay with the single gtx 980 or sli 2 6GB 780's sc from strix p.s if i get a gtx 980 i will probably not sli it any time soon or maybe never, my specs are below if needed

cpu: AMD FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor
gpu:all depends on this post now
ram:Kingston HyperX Fury Red 16GB DDR3 PC3-14900C10 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
ssd:Kingston HyperX 3K SSD 120GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive ~(for windows mainly)
hdd:WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue
motherboard:MB AMD AM3+ GBT GA-990FXA-UD5
allso have 850 watts from my power supply

I think 4gb of VRAM should be plenty for your setup for the next few years i would get the 980 if i were you or wait for a 980 with more VRAM im sure thats coming. But if you have enough disposable income to blow on 2 780s for and extra 2gb of VRAM (which i doubt you will need) go for it.

Also before ordering two 780 6gb gpus try one first. I have EVGA's version of the card and by itself its an amazing gpu and you may not need a 2nd one. The memory bandwith on it is also higher which I believe is better when utilizing higher amounts of vram (384-bit vs 256-bit of the 970/980).

the 2 780;s will only set me back an extra 150 pounds which i dont mind rather than having a single 980 and having to sli it downd the road which financially i will be unable of doing but anyway thank you for the reply i think i will go with the 780's just to be safe
