Ok, I have an Alienware aurora Area51. Setup is a raid 10 4 hdd's with a 5th outside the array (storage only). The 5th HDD failed epsa with 2000 0151 sequence =E3. I removed the defective non raid HDD and installed a known good HDD in its place. But system did not recognize a bootable device. Removed HDD and just tried booting with the 4 hdd's in the array, same result. Put the defective HDD drive back in and booted right up????....

I tried repair with installation disc...no go.
I checked raid array (control-I) with good HDD and with only the 4 array HDD drives and it reads as normal and bootable ( color was green on array as well).

The only way it will boot is if defective HDD which isn't part of the array is reinstalled....any ideas...i'm stumped and don't have time to research or troubleshoot at this time.

I am running W8.1 Raid 10 (0+1) with 4 hdd's and 1 HDD drive as not part of the array (storage device only)<<<which is defective >>>

yes, I have confirmed System partition is on the 5th HDD .... I tried installing the OS on good HDD and putting it in but still says no bootable device. How do I get MBR onto the new HDD or on the Array?

Or, Have I reached the point where all is lost?/??...UGH

Nope, I have solved this and have my array now loading. The solution was:

WHEN TRYING TO REBUILD THE MBR, I WAS MET WITH BOOT.EXE FIXMBR (FAIL) , BOOTEXE FIXBOOT (NO ELEMENT FOUND), BOOT.EXE SCAN (0 FOUND) .

I BROKE DOWN AND FOUND A LIST OF COMMANDS PERTAINING TO "DISKPART," "SELECT PART," "SELECT VOLUME, "AND "MADE ACTIVE." THEN I WAS ABLE TO FIND COMMANDS WHICH ALLOWED THE PART TO BE LOCATED WITH A COMMAND "BCDBOOT C: /L EN-US."(THIS COMMAND HAS UPTO THREE DIFFERENT VERSIONS AND DEPENDING ON WHAT SYSTEM YOU ARE USING ONLY ONE WILL WORK.

ALL OF THESE COMMANDS WERE NOT IN ONE PLACE BUT USED SELECTIVELY IN DIFFERENT SCENARIOS THROUGH THIS PERPLEXING CONUNDRUM.

LONG SHORT: (LAYMEN) THE PARTITION WASN'T BEING SEEN. HAD TO LOCATE PARTITION, THEN LOCATE VOLUME, THEN MAKE DISKPART C: ACTIVE , THEN GIVE FINAL COMMAND TO FORCE MBR AND ALL OF ITS SECTORS (BYTES 512) TO BE WRITTEN ONTO THE ARRAY.....3 HOURS LATER...SUCCESS...SO YES, YOU CAN REWRITE BOOT SECTOR FROM SCRATCH!
