does next gen fit with LGA1150

Solution
Broadwell will be the next and last generation of processors that will be compatible with the Z97 boards on the 1150 socket if it even makes it to market. It is quite possible that broadwell will not make it to market at all. Broadwell was intended to already be available to the market and with the exception of a few high end laptops is not. This is the reason we got Haswell Refresh chips and have had the 1150 socket for such a long time relative to how long previous generations 1155 and 1156 lasted. It would not be coming to the 2011v3 socket. The sister name Skylake will be given to new socket 1151 and will not offer an overclockable chip upon it's release. This information is the only information I have been able to confirm with my...

I am in the process of building my new machine: right now I am purchasing things that won't be affected when LGA 1151 hits. I already had the case waiting to be built in, I bought my PSU, my hard drives and my fans. I am considering purchasing the Noctua NH-D14 now because I am pretty sure it will still fit the 1151 without new hardware and if not I will just order the hardware from Noctua. Does anyone have any idea on some of the specs for skylake/1151 yet? Also is broadwell still going to make it to market?

I don't think there's anything definitive on either broadwell for desktops or skylake yet. Some said broadwell would come to lga 1150, others said no that because intel pushed back broadwell and opted not to push back skylake (the two will release very closely to one another) that broadwell would only be available on lga2011v3. From some articles I've read intel didn't even want to mess with broadwell and wanted to skip it entirely.

Another thing to consider, the skylakes that are coming out along with the new socket 1151 will be the second half of 2015 (3rd or 4th qtr supposedly) and will be the non k variety. Unlocked k edition skylakes are rumored to be somewhere around 1st or 2nd qtr of 2016. Take this all with a HUGE grain of salt because it's been nothing but speculation and rumors and there's been no definite answers on any of it yet. Regardless of the tech site, no one has the real scoop because intel hasn't come out and said for sure.
