I'm in the market for a laptop as I am interested in design however I also want something capable of running current gen games. I have the option of buying a lower grade laptop and a ps4 or a more expensive gaming laptop. What should I get?

There's no sense in splitting your money between two weaker machines; that's a waste of money and resources really. Put it all towards the laptop. If you like couch/TV gaming, many laptops can output to a TV and controller with the screen shut, like a thinner and more versatile console. Almost all games are going multiplatform these days anyway.

A laptop with a GTX 860m should have performance somewhere between the Xbox One and PS4. A GTX 965m or GTX 870m should be a bit better than the PS4. Anything stronger should crush the PS4.

"Gaming" laptops used to be a thigh-charring waste of money, but over the last year Maxwell and Haswell have transformed them into something actually worth considering.

Gaming laptop.Hell no.Wate of money.Take a gaming pc instead.Well, at ps4 you can play many games at ultra graphiccs. But in 2 years they will announce ps5.So you will have to spend lot of money for play station consoles. On pc you can play everything you want.Well at least the 80% of the games. You will spend around 1500$ and you will have for 5 years minimum. When ps5 will come up you wont be able to play any of [s4 games. So you will spend a lot of money.Thats my oponion.

P.S. Make you own gaming pc.Its better..I suggest you to buy a i5 cpu because its better than i7 in games. Also try to buy a 700W-1000W power supply for not having any problems with the extras(mouse, keyboard, cooller, grapicks card etc.).Also buy a bic pc box in order to able to have all these things inside.About the motherboard asd the graphics card better ask someone else because i am not that good an these stuff.I hope i helped you :)

Svardagalos, Two years ago you would've been correct. In the last two years, however, gaming laptops have improved dramatically. You now get nearly the same value from a $1000+ laptop as you get from a $1000+ desktop PC. Maxwell and Haswell have ushered in a new age... Now many gaming laptops cost just a bit more than a comparable desktop, and outperform the PS4 easily.

Also, a 700w PSU or a large case hasn't been necessary in a high end desktop for five years... So, since you admit you don't know much about it, I suggest you stop providing outdated information.

Have you ever been ina interne cafe?Do you compare gaming pc with a gaming laptop? In case you dont know gaming pc means bf4, call of duty, dying light, evolve and games like these, at ultra graphics. Not fifa15,lol,dota 2 etc.So you want a simi gaming cmputer. Then yes..you can buy a laptop.I thought you were a hardcore gamer ;)

Oh yeah? Which gaming laptop did you have?

Also, gaming laptops ARE PCs, so the fact that you keep referring only to desktops as PCs indicates that you have no idea what you're talking about. Laptops and desktops are both PCs, clearly.

I've had gaming desktops and a gaming laptop, and there's only minimal difference. A laptop will typically run a couple hundred dollars more for comparable performance and quality, but they're a very good choice for many people.

I also think it's amusing that you refer to BF4 as a hardcore game, when that's about as casual as they come. Most of the real hardcore games (Path of Exile, Dark Souls, Red Orchestra 2, the Dark Mod, etc) will run on ultra even on modest hardware.
