Hello so i am in the market for a budget sold state drive. I have been going back and forth between the Samsung 850 evo and Crucial mx200. They are around the same price for around the same money. If anybody would feel free and voice their opinions on which one they would buy feel free. Thanks for the help.

I have the 840 EVO, and can tell you that the software that comes with it is great. It includes software to help mirror the data from your existing drive, and also optimization software to help boost its speed as well. Personally I can't say much about the Crucial, but the Samsung is very popular and I've heard 0 complaints about it.

Hope that helps

The Crucial is a fine product. At the same price, I would get the Samsung. They are the market leader in SSDs and they have a somewhat more advanced type of memory.

For less money than the Samsung, the SanDisk Ultra II uses a similar type of memory and gets high marks in reviews and benchmarks.

In the real world? It probably doesn't make a bit of difference. Those are all good products and will perform similarly for most of us. I went with the SanDisk. It was $30 cheaper than the Samsung and $8 cheaper than the Crucial.

Kingston makes one for the same money as the SanDisk, but of all of the options, it uses an older generation type of memory.

Look the Crucial is a very good product! And I would most certainly buy one, it`s just they are not that easy to get here and i like the pure black casing of the Samsung, that`s why I ordered myself one yesterday. Very excited!

But really I would say go for the one that is a little bit cheaper and call it a day, at the end there is no wrong answer here...

Sorry for sitting on the wire with this one....

not sure if trolling or series. lol. 840 evo's have nothing but complaints about them. they are bugged with issues where they slow down after a few months of use. Samsung still hasnt fixed the issue. on the bright side, the 850 evos do not have that issue

the drive hasnt been out that long, so i would hold off on claims regarding its lifespan/longevity.

i am in the same boat. looking to upgrade one of my SSD's. i currently have a Samsung 830 and a Patriot Pyro. both are at least 3 years old and both are MLC. i havent had a single issue with either.

i kind of want to stay with a MLC SSD if i could get a deal. right now the mx200 (MLC) and the 850 EVO (TLC) are nearly the same price at tigerdirect. on paper the EVO is a hair faster.

i just cant shake the feeling that the crucial is a better memory type long term, and the fact that i will not notice a difference in real world use (movies/gaming/web).

Hi there to anyone reading this a year after the fact, like me! :pt1cable:

I have always used the crucial drives in all of the iMac and laptop computer upgrades I have done for myself, the company I used to manage, and all my clients. However, the Samsung is certainly better rated in this article for Random Reads ( reads that are smaller 4 K files ) with that said, this is good when the computer is turning on for the first time as well as many operating system tasks - like attaching external drives, opening up an application, etc...

http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Evo-250GB-vs-Crucial-MX200-250GB/2977vs3196

Hope this helps anyone who reads it. I would say buy either - depends on the cost. I would go with the lesser of the 2 drives...

I believe MX200 1TB has a higher endurance rating over the samsung.

In summary - either for a typical consumer, but if you use your system for a data i/o like work lab/research/learn etc. then MX200 is a better fit for that use case over the 850 EVO.

I have an HP Envy 17t, and I got the MX200 as I run multiple Database Servers with large, continuous I/O as a part of data science projects I work on that involve terabytes of i/o (create, process iteratively, delete, recreate, iterate). For my use case, the 850 EVO would *probably* die much before the MX200 does.
