I bought this Iphone 5 from my dad's friend that is unlocked for $130. We went to t-mobile since i had a tmobile sim card. Then we told one of the people that work there to factory reset it since it only had 4.7 GBs of memory left. The guy then put in the sim card and it won't read it, its specifically for verizon now. He told us to call apple for directions to unlock it but apple says that the phone is already unlocked. What to do?!

What you are describing is not possible with the iPhone 5. There are two main models of iPhone 5, a GSM model and a CDMA model. If you have a unlocked T-Mobile iPhone 5, you have a GSM model. Your GSM version of the iPhone 5 is not compatible with the CDMA network. It is restricted here in the states to AT&T and T-Mobile.

In order to switch from T-Mobile to Verizon, you will need to purchase a CDMA iPhone 5. As of this writing (Feb 16th, 2015) there are only two phones that can work on both US CDMA and US GSM networks, the iPhone 6 and Nexus 6.
