Hey guys.

A couple of days ago i encountered a problem with my second internal hard drive. One day it was completely fine and then the next morning it had problems. It kept disconnecting and eventually was unable to be read. So after attempting to format it which ultimately failed. I bought a new hard drive which i thought should be fine but since installing it there were problems formatting it and it took a few tries to actually format but now it just keeps disconnecting itself.

I have a feeling it's more to do with either my SATA controller or Windows itself but i'd rather ask people who know a bit more about this kind of thing like i do.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Specs: Mobo: Asus x79 sabertooth
C drive: 250gb Seagate barracuda
new hard drive: WD blue 1tb
GPU: AMD r7 260x
power: Corsair CX750m
RAM: G-skill ripjaws 16gb

Hi

Try a new SATA data cable

try different SATA ports to plug data cable into

try different SATA power connector

check voltage provided by PSU

find a molex 4 pin Aux connector on cable from PSU,
using a voltmeter (multimeter)
red to black 5V
yellow to black 12V
(tolerance 5%)

If you have access to another PC try connecting the hard drive to this PC

Test disk with WD Data lifeguard for Windows as occasionally DOA hard disks are supplied

Hey Mike!
Thanks for the advice. I've tried using different cables and the different ports and the problem still persists. Would it be worth it to re-install my SATA controller drivers or re-install windows?

Thanks again.
