How does this custom budget built PC look?

Solution
You might need a cheap 3.5 to 2.5mm adapter. They are not that much. Can try a different case too.

Pairing an unlocked "K" processor with an H97 chipset motherboard and 1600MHz RAM is a bit of a waste. If you're not interested in overclocking you can save some money by getting a Xeon CPU. It's essentially an i7 CPU that can't be overclocked and doesn't have the integrated GPU. It would lower the price of the build a bit.

so which part should I replace in Shortstuffss build? for storage

excuse my ignorance im just that clueless when it comes to gaming PC's...

also as someone who has never assembled a PC would it be safe for me to build one? is it difficult? I just keep reading that those like me could screw something up

this is probably the bare min needed for your build; ideally you'd do this with a 6 HT core IB-E extreme edition cpu, but your budget precludes that.

That would be kind of silly, now that Haswell-E is out. I would want a 5820k over a 4960x. Actually, I would never have considered an extreme edition IB-E, even when it was current. 4930k was a far better deal.

most cases have brackets for ssd's 2.5 inch ones that go right into the hdd bay's. If not you can always buy some after market ones or usually ssd's come with screws to bolt onto the back panel of the case just run your wires through the grommet holes.

i'm aware of haswell-E and it's 5% ipc improvement over IB-E; the main reason i suggested ib-e was because it uses ddr3 ram, unless you want to pay $400 for ram, haswell-e is so far outside your budget it isn't even an option on the radar.

Actually, a 6 core Haswell E rig would be cheaper than an ivy-e setup.

cant seem to edit my post..would it be possible to have the ASRock H97M ANNIVERSARY LGA1150/ Intel H97/ DDR3/ SATA3&USB3.0/ A&GbE/ MicroATX Motherboard instead of the one that is out of stock/ listed above?

would it cause problems?

I would go with the H97 anniversary over the H97m version. The M version lacks heatsinks on the VRM's, where the full ATX version has them. It is only like $3 more, which isn't much.
