Hi everyone. I made a thread last week about my PC turning off after 5 seconds from switch on. It doesn't POST and gives no indication to what is wrong.

After it turns off you have to unplug the power cable and put it back in again or it won't turn on at all, even with the switch at the back.

All the fans are working and all the lights light up etc, but just as it should POST it turns off.

I've tried two different PSUs and I know that one of them definitly works. I've brought a new motherboard and a new processor but it still just keeps turning off.

I've started it up with just the PSU connected and it still turns off.

My specs are:

Q6600 processor (just purchased)
4GB RAM
Conroe 1333-D667 motherboard (brand new)

I'm literally at the end of my tether with this nonsense. Does anyone have any advice before I cut my losses and throw it away?

The best advice i can give you then is to let a technician check it. You do not have something to lose, except 20-30 bucks and it will give you a solytion. Sometimes you cannot solve the problem all by yoursself and it will give you experience for the future, because it might be something none of us have considered.

It sounds like a problem with the processor. Did you attempt to boot the PC without a heat sink, thermal paste, or a fan? Did you remove the plastic cover from the processor?

I've checked it all. There's no shorts. I've had the pc for 8 years and one day it just stopped working. It hasn't been opened for at least 2 years.

I checked it again anyway to make sure and all the screws are in tight and nothing is shorting on the motherboard.
