*Sorry if this is in the wrong section*
I have got a new windows 8 laptop but when I plug my headset in sound still comes out of the built in laptop speakers. I went to control panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage audio devices and there were three inputs / outputs named AMD HDMI Output, Speakers and Headphones and communications headphones. The speakers and headphones were ticked but the others were not and I think one of them is for my headset. Any help?

Solution
When you right click there should be two tick boxes. "Show disabled devices " tick ! "Show Disconnected devices" tick !

Plug the 1.5mm jack into the laptop making sure it is the headphones and not the mic jack.
In sound/ playback devices, set as default device, or playback device.
If your using Usb, and it is a headset and mic then it needs to be selected as the default audio playback.
If it comes up as a coms device.
Plug your head phones in to the laptop audio jack.
Go to sound.
Hi light, and right click on head phones.

Select as default playback or output device.

To get audio back to the laptop speakers, after taking the head phone jack out of the laptop.
Repeat process on speakers selection in sound options, set back to default out put or playback device.
