Hello everyone. I've been looking for upgrading my memory from 1033 (2x2gb) to 1600 (2x4gb kit).

My mobo: http://www.foxconnchannel.com/ProductDetail.aspx?T=motherboard&U=en-us0000522

Bios info: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/594567/Foxconn-H61mxv.html?page=39#manual

CPU : i5 2500k

In the motherboars's list it says that mb support 1600 (oc) but I couldn't find XMP profile in the bios. So please, what's your advises for me? Should I buy 1600 ram anyways or upgrade my mobo to asrock a77 or Asus p8z77 and buy better ram?

Thanks.

you need an ivy bridge cpu to run ram at 1600mhz with you mobo. you can buy 1600mhz ram but it will operate at 1333mhz. even so such ram upgrade you are planning will be a wothy upgrade!. the only reason i would upgrade to a Z77 mobo, is to try overclocking since your cpu has the ability.! however you will additionally need an aftermarket cpu cooler and solid psu.! (an overclocked i5 paied with z77 can run 1600mhz ram or even faster!)

So it means if I had ivy bridge new ram would run at 1600 with my mobo? Before answering the question I saw many threads where sandy bridge was running 1600 ram or even more :<

only with P67 - Z68 - Z77 chipset mobos can support higher than your cpu's rated memory speed

sandy bridge 1066/1333 mhz
ivy bridge 1333/1666 mhz
