I have installed a new card into my built rig and It randomly restarts with no warning messages. I originally put a xfx r9 290 in and due to it having the same issues and reading many people were having the same problem i sent it back after a day of trying to get it to run assuming that it was the card with the issues. Unfortunately it seems that is not so. I have just put in a new MSI r9 290x and have the same issue. My old card is a radeon hd 6670 and it still runs great with zero issues. Also as a side note not sure if could help identify the issue but the pc seems to load very slowly and all processes seem to be a labor with the new card in it. The restarts seem to occur at a 5-10 min passing.

I have tried uninstalling the old drivers and doing a fresh install of new ones. I have updated my bios, I reset my motherboard memory by removing the battery ( wouldn't recommend that to anybody that just seemed to cause more issues.) I have even wiped the pc completely with a fresh windows install. I am at a loss. I have a feeling its something to do with my motherboard maybe? Help with this would be greatly appreciated.

My specs are as follows:

OS: Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4170 Quad-Core Processor
(Card name: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
Power Supply: Corsair cx750
Mother Board: ASUS M5A 78L-M LX plus

I don't have anymore on this board :-/. But I have something interesting. I tried uninstalling the drivers again with a recommended program Gurus3d. And the pc stays on without the drivers installed. but when i reinstall the drivers it starts doing the restart again.

A couple possible scenarios -

BAD PSU - with pci-e 6/8pins in your PSU May be unstable - try a different PSU if you can to see if problem persists

Posisble Mobo is faulty - this has happened to me before. was a bad PCI-E slot....with gts 8800 in PC ran fine - with GTX 470 in the PC crapped out - turned out to be a bad PCI-E slot - Try r9 290x in old PC with PCI-E slot and see if there is a problem on that machine, if so then likely the card not the mobo

Could also be a driver issue.....maybe something to do with low power states....try disabling ULPS in regedit for your gfx card
