My current setup:
i7 920 Do @ 4.2ghz
Rampage Extreme 3
Corsair Dominator 6gb @ 1600 mhz

I bought 12 gb of ram, corsair dominator for around £180.
The model no is: CMT12GX3M3A2000C9

Problem is.
I cannot run this ram at it's rated 2000mhz.
I can only run it at 1200mhz which more or less makes it useless to me.

At these settings I did not even get a 1fps change.

How to run this stupid ram at even 1600mhz please?

How much of an OC do you have on the CPU? Do you have the latest BIOS? Will want latest BIOS, OC the CPU, then enable XMP and select profile 1. May need to increase the The DRAM voltgae a bit (maybe + 0.05 over spec and May need 1.5 or more in the VTT/QPI o r QPI/VTT (can't remember the nomenclature Asus used on that mobo) voltage to your MC (memory controller)

i7 920 stock speed is 2.6 GHz, running it at 4.2 Ghz is a little aggressive and probably putting too much stress on your memory controller, which is btw in the CPU. And that's most likely the reason why you are having hard time running the RAM at the rated speed. Try what Tradesman suggested, OC the CPU then enable XMP, then manually increase the DRAM voltage, but I wouldn't go pass 1.65v. I would then gradually increase the QPI/DRAM voltage (memory controller) in increments of .05v. The highest I'd go is 1.35v.

FWIW, I had the same set up back then similar to yours (CPU, MB and RAM), my 920 was able to ht 4.4 stable under water (custom), but not matter what I do, I couldn't get my RAM to run anything higher than 1600Mhz. iirc, my BCLK was sitting at 215 with Vcore at 125v

My current setup:
i7 920 Do @ 4.2ghz
Rampage Extreme 3
Corsair Dominator 6gb @ 1600 mhz

This above has run for 5 years and tested with prim95.

I have used the same 2010 bois all this time. Does Bios change delete everything off SSD harddrive?

I didn't bother updating bios to 2011.
I just upped QPI to 1.45V.

So my settings are now::
i7 920 Do @ 4.2ghz
Rampage Extreme 3
Corsair Dominator 12gb @ 2005 mhz

Compared to:
i7 920 Do @ 4.2ghz
Rampage Extreme 3
Corsair Dominator 6gb @ 1600 mhz

Difference in gaming on FPS using Fraps.
Zero!

Difference in settings 1T (n) compared to 2T (n) in gaming using Fraps.
Zero!

Infact 1T seemed to show slower by 1fps even though it was just once test.

Well that was £180 odd pound well spent.

My old ram speeds were 9-9-9-24 1T @1600mhz
New ram speeds are 9-10-9-27 1T @ 2005mhz

Is it wise to lower timings?

Well all of it has gone belly up. Failed prime 95.
Is it okay to go 1.5v on qpi?

I'll have to sell the ram otherwise and make the loss. and stick with 1600mhz 6gb.

Well like one your earlier posts I have got it going on 1.52 QPI.

The temps are more or less the same 41,42 idle in a warm room.

At 1.45 it would fail prime instantly and 1.5 now runs for prime although i only let it run for 5 minutes.
