I bought 2x4gb of ram one month ago. When inserting them and booting my pc it tells me 8gb detected and 4 usable. This is if I put them in dual channel. If in single channel, it works perfectly (8 usable). I tried both channels, and every possible combination. It seems the two top slots are not working even with a single ram inserted:
I changed my motherboard and im still having the same problem. Tried ram at my friends pc and it worked fine. Im wondering if it has something to do with my cpu (No broken pin though).

Build:
Ga-990fx-ud3
Fx 8320
2x4gb gskill
Hd 7770

UPDATE: The problem was indeed with the cpu imc (integrated memory control. Sent it to amd rma and they approved.

There's no such option in bios. I think its for old MB. New ones are supposed to auto detect etc.

It shows 8Gb total mem in bios btw.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS. What CPU cooler? 212 EVO? try loosening the cooler then snug it back down - not overly tight, if too tight in a corner or side it can throw off th pins from full contact and affect the Memory controller - if that's not it try raising the DRAM voltage + 0.05 and the CPU/NB voltage 0.10. If still no joy check the CPU for bent/broken pins

Thanks for the tips but it did not work. Appreciate it.
I'll send the processor back to amd so they fix it..
