Xbox One or PC upgrade?

So my friend was thinking about getting an Xbox One due to the fact that he gets bad FPS on Battlefield Hardline and Dips in Battlefield 4, also that there are no Madden games on PC (except for 08 and below which kinda sucks) and he wants this machine to last him some time, about 6 months-10 months

Current Specs
CPU: FX-4300 (hyper 212 evo)
GPU: HD 7950
RAM: 4gb Ram 1333mhz
Storage: 1tb HDD
Mobo: MSI 970A-G46(he knows it's got bad VRM's which sucks for oc'ing)
Windows 8.1

Upgrades he is willing to get (budget 300$)
FX-6300
R9 280x
8gb 1866mhz ram
128gb SSD for Battlefield games(I think it could possibly help texture loading)
He will sell some of his pc parts to afford this and I want facts about the future upgrade vs. xbox one because it is one or the other for him

Things to know: he has BF4 premium on xbox not pc, and 10865 Gamer points

If there is any other choice I'd be happy to hear it

The jump from a 7950 and R9 280X isn't that high. The HD 7950 is still a good card for 1080p gaming. It was your cpu that was holding it back in games.

I know but the fact that is has more GFLOPS, higher clock speeds and slightly higher BF4 fps with mantle, makes it a good upgrade for him and hes only paying 150 (technically 30)

If this matters I have a rig from early 2014 that could have upgrade potential but isn't used much

CPU- i3-4150
GPU: GTX 660 ti
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-H97M
Storage: 500gb SSHD
RAM: 6gb 1333mhz ram (triple channel)
Windows 7 64 bit

I could just give this system to him but I dont know if it will last him long

What does he play on pc? So far he's only played xbox games so why is he even bothering with upgrading the pc?

He doesn't have an xbox one yet and everyone he knows plays pc, he is also a little more interested in PC due to the fact that he can keep upgrading and he needs something for typing up essays, (doesn't own a laptop either)

For $300, he could get an i5 4460, an H97 board, and still have cash left over, to get some more ram.

If he wants to play madden, then there is really no other choice besides xbox one.

It almost seems like he may be leaning towards the xbone, but you would rather him go PC. If $300 is his budget to upgrade, he should go with the Xbone.

take this build and use the HD 7950. then use the money to upgrade to an i5 and a ram kit (btw, just because you have 3 RAM sticks, doesn't make it triple channel. you're actually reverting it to single channel by doing this). salvage all usable parts such as hard drives and combine the two machines. sell off any extras, and then consider the GPU upgrade. you'll benefit most from dual channel RAM and a decent intel CPU
