Hello,

I have a classic phone with an RJ11 plug that I want to connect to a dsl router (Fritz!) that only has RJ45 plugs, a few of them dedicated to the phone connections.

Any ideas?

P.S. I don't have any soldering tools.

Some routers use rj45 for the WAN DSL connection. I suspect they do that just to confuse people or sell expensive cables.

So first be very sure the wan port is DSL and not eithernet. It will normally say DSL near the port on the router.

Option 1
Try a cable with rj11 on both ends. The center pins will line up and work most the time. The rj11 is slightly shorter and it may not fit the best but it generally will work. It tends to be hard to get a rj11 plug back out of a rj45 socket because the release pin is shorter.

Option 2
Build a cable with rj45 on 1 ends and rj11 on the other. Without tools the only option other than buying a cable like this is to cut 2 cables and just twist the wires together. You would cut a rj11-rj11 cable and a normal ethernet cable. You will want to connect the blue and blue/white wire that are in the ethernet cable to the center 2 wires in the rj11. generally it is a red and green but rj11 cables are not as standand as ethernet.
