Windows 8.1 Pro help upgrading from windows 8.1 32 bit to windows 8.1 64 bit

So my dad bought this digital version of windows 8 from the Microsoft store and it downloaded windows 8 32 bit not 64 bit. So I was wondering how to install windows 8 64 bit. (Windows 8.1 Pro for Students)

Did your dad purchase the upgrade or the full version?
I ask because you cant upgrade from an existing 32bit version to a 64 bit version. To go from 32 to 64 requires a full install which also means you cant use the upgrade version to do it.
