Re-seated my ram, now I don't have sound

Hi everyone,

Something weird happened today when I was looking for a problem with my ram, I decided to re-seat it and now there's no more sound when I boot it. When I plug in my speakers, the Realtek HD audio pops-up and asks if I had just plugged in speakers, but there's still no sound. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver, but it didn't work either.

I really don't know what to do anymore,

Here's my dxdiag if it can help: http://pastebin.com/uyKaMUf0

Thanks.

Ok just checking you might've dislodge the front panel audio header slightly by accident when handling inside the case.

Reseating memory wouldn't cause audio to fail unless maybe power was still running through the computer which i assume it was turned off before working on it.

Check your volume levels and its not muted.

Well that was rude. Even if the initial suggestions are obvious, they're commonly asked and gives some idea to fill the gaps the op (you) failed to elaborate on and usually ventures to other avenues of diagnosis.

Good luck with a response like that.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to be rude, thank you for your time and help, but that was not the case.

In fact, I think the audio module on the motherboard has a problem, because everything works fine, except for the fact that there's no sound.

ok sure thanks.

Its possible for the sound chip to go, its common. But reseating memory shouldn't be the cause of it, people upgrade memory all the time so possibly the motherboard was already faulty.

Try removing the cmos watch sized battery and let it out for a few, at least a good 30seconds for the bios to reset. Hopefully sound will come back.

I just tried both of your solutions, and still, none of them worked. I'm really starting to think that I broke something while changing the ram.

Reseted BIOS, tried front panel.

I'm considering buying a PCI sound card now...

(and really, thank you for your fast answers, you are being a lot of help!)

Sorry just got up.

A sound card will work but for the moment whats your exact motherboard and what monitor do you have (does it have speakers?) and what brand/model are your main speakers?

GTX680 if it has HDMI does sound, check in Windows Audio Playback Devices that Speakers (Realtek) is set to default rather than Nvidia's High Definition Audio. Really Nvidia should only be allowed to be set if the display with audio is detected (Like an HDMI monitor with speakers) You might not be connected with HDMI or Monitor doesn't have speakers anyway, but worth a look in Windows Playback devices.

Why did you reseat the memory? Did you have other problems? Are you sure they went back in the right slots?

I'm not sure about the specific way it should be installed. I have 6 slots, so I put them in slots 1,2,4. Is that correct? I believe I tried 1,2,3 but it only detect 4gb of RAM instead of 6gb.
