I was wondering for the game I mainly play DayZ Standalone since it's CPU intensive I was wondering what would be the better choice. These are the options, I also don't know how to overclock.

i7-4790k 4.0, R9 280x, 8GB Ram

i5-4690k 3.5, GTX 970, 8GB Ram

Really? I thought this game plays better with a i7?

The second option, by far.

The advantages a hyperthreaded intel i7 enjoys are of little consequence to gaming. You'll gain no benefits over the other, regardless of which processor you choose. If your angle is purely gaming, your only option in terms of price efficiency is the i5. That, a z97 motherboard and a decent aftermarket cooler will put you in place for a powerful processor based experience for several years to come.

Now the graphics ideal looks like

770=280X < 780=290 < 290X < 970

Short of listing a dozen specifications detailing why the 970 is a lot better than a 280X, it's better to defer the differences from the amount of graphics levels between them, as a rule of thumb. Not a definitive idea of performance difference(especially where AMD is concerned!) but it works for those less experienced consumers

No, the only difference between an i7 and and i5 is that the i7 has only "slightly" better performance than the i5 AND it has hyperthreading which does not benefit the game as games these days don't really utilise hyperthreading.

Your better off with and i5 4690k. I would use the i7 for media production such as music, movie rendering etc.

nope, i5 and i7 are equal in this game, it doesn't take advantage of thee hyperthreading on the i7. I have tested this and my buddy confirms that he gets same framerate with his i5

Alright so it would be smarter to get choice number two
