Hi! So considering the recent events with nVidia, I've held myself back from purchasing a 970. But after things have settled, and recently seen some performance benchmarks, I am quite encouraged again to purchase the card.

So I was wondering if a 970 was worth the upgrade from a still perfectly working, but increasingly hard to maintain gtx 460? Card is 3 years old.

Which brand should I go with? (to be used for Motion design, and gaming (GTA V, FFXIV 3.0 patch, planned as of the moment.))

And, I was curious if nVidia gives free games with the purchase of the card?

But with that said, here's my system:

AMD FX-6300 OC'd 4.2 GHz 6-Core
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 ATX AM3+
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" SSD
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 1GB
Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower
Rosewill 630W ATX12V / EPS12V
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
BenQ GL2760H 27.0"
LG E2250V 22in 60 hz
Gigabyte GK-OSMIUM
Razer Naga Wired Laser

Not sure how future-proof this card will be, so I'll be monitoring any changes for the next 30 days that I have the card. If all goes well... I stick with it or sell it if AMD does produce a better card. Which is unlikely, but surely it would be cheaper.

By extrapolating performance from older charts, I'm estimating the GTX 460 is going to be at about the level of a GT 640 or 650 in this chart. Your FX CPU may hold you back a bit, but the upgrade will be major. If you want to save money, the GTX 960 comes in about midway between the 640 and 970 in terms of performance, still a major upgrade over the GTX 460.
