GPU, CPU and PSU question

Hey guys. I recently purchased parts for a new computer and I'm having a bit of confusion right now. This might be a little confusing, but I'll try to explain the best I can.

First off, I got the EVGA 750B PSU with modular power cables. The VGA cables have 6 pin plugs with an additional 2 sticking off on their own, making it combined 8 pin connection. The hard-wired CPU cable is 4 pin but has an additional cable for 8 pin CPU connection.

My GPU is the XFX R9 290X. It has a total of 14 pins, an 8 pin connection to the left and another 6 pin to the right.

My CPU is the AMD FX 8350 and the mobo is capable of an 8 pin CPU power connection.

Okay, the cable going to the GPU: I have the hard-wired VGA cable (the one built into the PSU) plugged into the left slot - the one with 8 pins. Do I just use the other provided VGA cable to fill in the remaining 6 slots? This will leave the extra 2 pins on the cable just sticking out. I figure that's a design decision by EVGA, but it makes me wary.

Also, should my CPU use the 4 pin or 8 pin configuration? The PSU manual says to only use 8 pin for "extreme overclocking". I might plan to overclock in the future, but not right now...also the CPU, from what I understand, is pretty powerful (8 core).

I hope this wasn't too confusing. Any help would be appreciated.
