Hi, I have been having problems for a while now with high ping spikes randomly throughout the day. No one else on my network is doing anything or having the same problem as me. I am on a Ethernet connection, my ISP is at&t.

Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Why use ping in cmd? That only sends requests to a server. Speedtest.net is way easier to use. And it is very normal for AT&T users to sometimes experience lag spikes or ping spikes, almost everyone deals with this issue unless you live in major cities or are on google fiber lines lol.

If you ask why because he said he felt spikes on random times.
To know its ISP problem or hardware, he should check his ping at the same time when he felt the spikes.

Is it RTO (Request time out) or its (High Ping) that makes it lag, since if its still below 100ms. Then it should be the hardware problem.

The one time I want a ping spike so I can record it, it doesn't happen. :( Idk if I will be able to get one tonight I can give an estimate of the spikes though. Around 300-2000 somewhere in there sometimes for a couple second and sometimes for hours.

Have you considered your routers placement? It can be in a horrible service area. I moved my att hot spot device around my house to try to find the best signal... Some areas are slow some areas are fast

I have considered that but I am on ethernet so I do not understand how that would affect it. As an added note I have called my isp out multiple times to check everything and they say everything is fine.

Is there a way to get cmd logs? When I was having this problem earlier I pulled up cmd and it was spiking in the 300-2000 range. It doesn't seem like it wants to cause problems right now.

Got this log when I was having this problem.

I have gotten confirmation there is no problem with the ISP (or so they say, I have called multiple times and gotten people to come out here and check.)

Help please :(

Ok so now we know that the problem is within the ISP itself. Hardware ain't a problem. So you used up wifi / LAN cable? try LAN it may help. if it still comes. So you need to save this ping and tell em, maybe you can get a refund or lower payment.

The ISP will still blame your router...and it very well could be if you are using wireless.

So now you just expand upon what you are doing to find this.

First run traceroute to google.com or whatever you are using.

Now you want to open multiple CMD windows and run continuous ping to a couple of the devices in the trace. The ones that are most important are the first 2 and the end 1. The first one is the router in your house so if you see issues there your router is to blame. The second it the very first ISP router. This generally represents the cable between your house and the ISP. If there are issues in the second but not the first then there may be a issue with the wires in your house or the modem or the actual wire in the street. You will need the ISP help to find this.

If the problem does not show up in the first 2 hops you can continue to test other but you will not be real successful getting much done. This is someplace in the ISP network. It could be in At&t or it could be in any ISP between ATT and the ISP google uses. Even if it is in ATT network you will have a massive issue getting to a senior enough tech that would even understand how to use traceroute and ping to troubleshoot a network.

I am already on LAN it makes it a little better. Ive called my ISP more times than I can count and they claim to be having no connections with my computer and no problem connecting to my router/modem. And on top of that no one else in my house has any problems with what I am having.

Ok there are 2 choices then.
1st. Modem compability
2nd. "Someone" you didn't know put a virus and used up your bandwidth

how to check?
After windows load, use ctrl + alt + del, and open up task manager. Click the Process tab, and find some program that didn't even show up on bottom right, but its on the task manager. You should uninstall those.

For me i found out there are "EpicScale.exe" which i didn't know and. I did uninstall it.

If there is still no problem after this, it should be your ISP. no matter how they claims, the problem is still there right? you should like Screenshot your ping, etc. They might help
