this may be a dumb question, but i'm now curious. for the OS drive for a small office server running 2012R2, i can either have a RAID1 for that or just a single non-RAID drive. either way i'd be keeping system images regularly (weekly at first, then monthly once things are configured and stable).
how much would i give up if the OS isn't on a RAID1 and is instead on a single drive (probably SSD)? it would be cheaper and simpler and more direct to skip the RAID on the system drive, but at what real cost? the server is on 24/7 but clients are 9-5 M-F, so there's plenty of idle time.
