8GB or 16GB

Just a question. Indeed I am upgrading to 8GB or 16GB? Currently I am using i7-4790K (@4.6G) + 4GB.
I am asking for 3-5 years of usage. I know that I can upgrade from 8GB to 16GB in the future, however I heard that 4 sticks may lay a burden on the memory controller of 4790K. Is that true? I will OC the memory to 2400MHz.

Thanks,

Even in gaming there are reports of some newer games people already using 8 GB and it's simply going to grow, most prebuilts already are coming w/ 8GB and manufacturers are stingy w/ DRAM. I generally look to 16GB as entry level if you hope to stay happy for the next year or two - otherwise will be thinking of upgrading shortly

please elaborate the usage for heavy video editing and multitasking at d same time use 16 gb if you are going to play games most of them require no more than 8gb
you wont see a huge difference but 2 sticks keeps room for upgrade

Tough call. In 3-5 years you might be needing 16GB. And with the coming move to DDR4 it will most likely more expensive then what it is now. On the other hand you will then have 16GBs of stuff that won't work in a new system.

Unless you have a demand for RAM that goes beyond normal use, I'm going to say risk using 8GBs. You already have a 4GB stick so just buy an "identical" 4GB stick.

Thanks. But I am buying new kits. So the old kits will not be used anymore, as they have low speed. I am wondering 4K applications, as we will finally move to 4K area.
DDR4 will be different and the current set will not work in the DDR4 system. So I am just asking for the current system for 3-5 years.

When it comes to 4K gaming, 8GB is also enough? I am afraid that if games in the future will all be like Assassin Unity, maybe 16GB will work.

Will 4790k support DDR4? I found that. The answer is no.

4790K is DDR3 only, between Corsair and Kingston it's sort of a toss if they are the same timings - Kingston's Savage line is very good, Corsair you pay a premium for the name. For good price and best performance look to GSkill Tridents 2400/10 2x4GB runs about $90, less than many 2133 and some 1866 sets
