I built my first computer. My budget was 1000-1300. I was told by a store person it could be better and its not that great. So now I'm feeling discouraged Consair Graphite 760t Case
Storage: 3tb (forgot the brand)
Asus Maximus VII Hero Motherboard
Intel Core i5-4690 3.5ghz Processor
Gigabyte Geforce GTX 970
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB
EVGA supernova NEX750B 750w Power Supply
Windows 7 Home Preium since I spent a lpt of money.
Keep in mind I'm a beginner.

I can see where some money was wasted. You bought one of the more expensive overclocking boards then used a locked cpu. Since your not overclocking you could have easily got a cheaper(but still good quality) H97 or Z97(if you want SLI support). 8Gb of ram is good for gaming. I hope that PSU is the B2 version as its much better than the older B1. With what you would have saved on the board and ram you could have added a SSD or possibly went with a 980. That aside it should still run great.

What if I just switch to an i7? Which one should I get that isn't as expensive? Which SSD should I get? I am going to microcenter.

An i7 is not going to make much if any difference gaming unless you are streaming. If anything get the 4690k. SSD wise the Crucial MX100s and the Samsung 840 and 850s are good. Have you already built the system or is this what you have planned to buy?

I hit pick as solution by mistake. I have already built the system :/ Is the motherboard not good? Is the 4690k better? The guy sold me a locked cpu telling me I could overclock it.

Welp, this is embarrassing. I DO have the i5 4690k.

Where did I mess up? Should I switch it for something different? This is my first rig, I want to be able to upgrade it as I become more experience. So Im guessing its considered more fair, instead of good? What can I do to make it good/great for a beginner rig?

I have a 4690k not 4690.
