As you look through my specs, try to hold the laughter of how outdated the pieces are but it's been kicking butt with me along the way so i'm good with it >.<

Currently I have
ASUSTek M4A785TD-V EVO Motherboard
AMD Phenom II x2 555 CPU
DDR3 8GB RAM
Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti

Right so, I've been having some problems with the higher definition games that I play as FPS would drop, games start getting choppy and freeze in dense environments. I read across some places that my Video card should handle most games no problem, such as battlefield 4, at 60 FPS with high settings. Yet, it's not the case.

Over long discussions and research, I figured it was my CPU that was inhibiting the performance of my computer and so I came to the desicion of buying

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T/1100T which is a significant boost in power compared to what I have (even if its 10years old) which only costs me $175~

I then asked the owner a question about anything I might have overlooked before buying and he said to update the BIOS for Mobo. Which with further research, there are a lot of risks and warnings when doing that.

So my question is what do I do towards this?
I saw this site
http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/list.aspx?SLanguage=en&p=1&s=24&m=M4A785TD-V%20EVO&os=&hashedid=fcsXWSxnhzZE9rnR

1) Should I update the driver to my current CPU now?
2) Once I receive the new CPU, do i Install the CPU first or Bios Driver update for that CPU first?

3) Anything I should check before doing so?

My knowledge on computer is pretty basic, but I do put effort into researching. This is probably my first post regarding PC's...ever... but the information is so spread out and years back that I rather ask directly

Thanks again for all the help ^^

Solution
You need to update the BIOS before installing the new CPU. Do not use a Windows application to update the BIOS, flash it from the utility built into the BIOS.

$179 is quite expensive for an old CPU.

Yeah I'm really not sure where to gauge power of old/new CPU's and price comparisons but ok ^^ thanks a lot for that!

I looked up my BIOS version and its 2103
Comparing that to the site i linked above, there's a "2005" next to the CPU i was planning on buying.

I'm assuming that the the 2013 means that it supersedes the 2005 version, but not really sure

A BIOS file includes all previous updates.

1090T = BIOS version 2005 or newer
1100T = BIOS version 2105 (it's the latest version)

If you buy the 1100T, then a BIOS update is required before installing the new CPU.
