Hi thanks for reading! So I have windows 7 and I'm looking to install windows 8.1pro with my disk and key oem, but I was thinking how would I go about doing so if I have a wd 1tb blue and a Samsung evo 120gb set as achi? Will this automatically delete everything on these drives for me and is there a special way to do it for a ssd? Also would this delete my bios version and updates cause if it does I will not be able to use my pc for it has the saber tooth 990x mobo with an amd fx8320 cpu and needs the latest bios to to work with fx series cpu's! Also is there anything else I should no since I've never done this? All help is appreciated!

P.s. The only files I really want to save are drivers for my wireless network card

Solution

After you connect the HDD, Disk Management.
Select each partition, Delete.
Make it into one large partition.

Installing an OS does not affect the motherboard BIOS.

Your way forward:

Have only the SSD connected.
Install the OS
When you do, choose Custom, and wipe out all existing partitions on the drive
Let Windows install to the whole space.
Once it is all up and actually running, then consider connecting the HDD.

And yes...you will need to reinstall all your drivers. They are part of the OS.

Okay so I'm having a problem, so set my disk drive to first boot, and even checked the disk and it works but when I reset pc after saving the bio changes without my hdd in it just gives me the option to boot windows 7 or windows 7 untilmate(recovered) but the disk is for windows 8 and I can't get my pc to boot from disk first to even install the windows 8

You have only the SSD connected?
And are booting directly from the DVD (or USB stick)?

Have only the SSD and DVD drive connected.
Put the install DVD in the drive
Power off.
Power on.
Boot from your install disk

Continue....

This is from an actual Win 8.1 install disk? Your BIOS is set to boot from the DVD drive?
And it doesn't do it?

So you bought a Win 8.1 install something on ebay, and it doesn't boot properly.
I wonder why that is....
