Hello, I have recently starting upgrading my PC and have just gotten the last part, the CPU. However, I cannot get the computer to boot. Without changing anything, when I try to start the computer up with the new CPU, the case fans will start spinning, the heatsink fan will ATTEMPT to spin, and the computer will shut off. No beeps, nothing on the screen. I have made sure nothing is blocking the heatsink fan and I have properly applied thermal paste. The computer will boot if I put the old CPU back in. I have checked the MOBO's support site and their is no compatibility issues with the CPU. Here are my specs:

Corsair 750 W Power Supply

Gigabyte B85M-D3H Motherboard

XFX R7770 Graphics card

(x2) G-Skill 4 GB DDR3-1333 RAM

Intel i5-4460 LGA1150 Processor (New one that won't work)

Solution

You might have to find out. Visit the support page for your motherboard, check the "download" section and see what's available. There should also be instructions. Good luck.

The old processor was an Intel Pentium. I am not sure how to do a BIOS update.

Thank you very much, I am 100% sure this was the issue. My current BIOS is from 2013, and I found an update on the site that specifically says "Supports new Intel 4th Gen Processors". Thank you for the help
